Melissa Primavera

Soprano Melissa Primavera (she/her) is a classically trained singer with decades of performance experience. Her musical journey has taken her from opera houses to concert stages, churches and private venues across the U.S. and Europe. Her strong classical foundation allows her to shift between genres with ease; from a Puccini aria, a pop ballad with acoustic guitar, an a cappella hymn or a classical piece by an exiled composer whose voice deserves to be heard again.

Melissa has sung over a dozen operatic roles in 4 languages including “Musetta” in La Boheme, "Magda" in La Rondine, "Frasquita" in Carmen, and "Susanna" in The Marriage of Figaro. Of her performance as "Antonia" in Tales of Hoffmann Michael Caruso wrote, "She sang with dramatic intensity, impassioned lyricism and touching intimacy." Her performance of "Clotilde" in Norma at St. Petersburg Opera was described by The Tampa Bay Times as "excellent."

For over a decade Melissa has partnered with Elysium between two continents in Germany and the U.S. to give voice to artists who were exiled and silenced under the Nazi regime. Programs premiered in Chicago to date include Healing a Fractured World: A portrait of exiled composer Egon Lustgarten (Producer & Principal Soloist) and Out through the barbed wire, out into freedom: Jewish voices from Theresienstadt (Voice & Guitar.)

She can be heard regularly in Chicago, bringing opera to non-traditional spaces as a roster member of Opera Inter Alia and accompanying herself on acoustic guitar at local venues. As a volunteer for Sharing Notes and Guest House, Melissa brings music to seniors, children and patients. She has also sung the National Anthem at the Bank of America Chicago Marathon twice and was a recipient of the Illinois Arts Council Creative Catalyst Grant. Learn more at www.melissaprimavera.com
