The Naperville Men's Glee Club

The Naperville Men’s Glee Club (NMGC) was formed on January 9, 1988 to provide opportunities for the production and appreciation of high-quality male choral singing and fellowship. Through the leadership of professional Illinois musicians, it has become the mission of the Glee Club to: Seek musical excellence, Inspire and entertain audiences, Nurture youth and fellowship, Give back to the community.

Since its inception, The Naperville Men's Glee Club has cultivated a rich history of performance and service to the community through highly rated concerts and projects that have drawn in members of their community and state as performers and audience.

The NMGC draws group members of all ages and backgrounds from the Naperville area, including DuPage and surrounding counties. Members of the group are typically non-professional musicians, although the staff is composed of professional musicians or music students. The primary audience members for our concerts are also drawn from the local community.

Membership in the NMGC is by audition and consists of attendance at weekly rehearsals and work outside of rehearsal to seek the musical excellence that is a fundamental goal of the group.

The glee club organizes several major concerts each year, including a free outdoor evening concert at the Naperville bandshell that has become a summer tradition. Additionally, the NMGC puts on several mini-concerts at assisted living facilities in the area and typically performs at several community events each year.
The glee club also organizes collaborations with local high school singing groups as well as with college glee clubs from Illinois and other states.

Our Artistic Director, Michael Ferguson, is in his first year with the NMGC. He earned his B.S. in music education and M.A. in choral music education at the University of Illinois, where he sang with the Varsity Men’s Glee Club under the direction of William W. Olson. He has directed elementary and high school choirs across Illinois and led several youth and church choirs in the Naperville area.

The Glee Club often hires additional instrumentalists and choral performers from the area to augment our performances and workshops.
